Metal Braces
Metal brackets are very strong and are suitable for most types of treatment. At first they may irritate your gums, but after a few weeks, when your cheeks get “toughened up” they are not a problem anymore. Most traditional metal braces require an o-shaped rubber band to hold the arch wire onto the bracket.
As orthodontic technology has advanced, these brackets have become smaller and less troublesome. Metal brackets tend to be less expensive than other types of brackets and many patients enjoy choosing colored rubber bands to match the season or their style.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic brackets are made of composite materials. They are very strong and generally do not stain.
Adults tend to choose ceramic because they are more aesthetically pleasing than metal and less noticeable from a distance or in photos.
For some people ceramic braces are more comfortable and less irritating to the cheeks and gums.
Self-Ligating Braces
The most significant difference with self-ligating braces is the absence of rubber bands. Self-ligating braces typically are smaller and more aesthetic than traditional braces since only a metal door is required to hold wires in place.
Each self-ligating brace uses a slide mechanism to hold the archwire, thus decreasing pressure on the teeth and reducing friction on the wire, which can decrease the treatment time by 3-6 months.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is one of the simplest and fastest ways to a beautiful smile. Invisalign® is available for both teenagers and adults. This treatment option is not appropriate in every case, but when appropriate Invisalign® has many advantages.
Following a consultation with our US board-certified orthodontist, if Invisalign® is recommended, the treatment process is relatively simple:
During your initial visit, we will take and send it to Invisalign® with the orthodontist’s instructions.
It is used to generate a series of aligners. This series will take you from your current state to your best smile possible. Depending on your personal treatment plan, there may be anywhere between 12 and 48 aligners.
During your next visit to the orthodontist you will receive the first few aligners with instructions on when to switch between them.
Each set of aligners should be worn continuously for about 7-10 days and should only be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. The orthodontic treatment team will see you on average every month to ensure the progression of your treatment and give you the next set of aligners.
Following the last set of aligners, treatment is completed. Only your beautiful smile awaits you.
