Dr. Josh Liu

PureSmile is excited to introduce to you our newest American trained dentist in Shanghai. Dr. Josh Liu received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the prestigious University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Liu further pursued his education by obtaining an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) certificate from his residency at the Pacific Dental Care Clinic in Stockton, CA. It was here where he received special training in Implant Dentistry under Dr. Mike Chen, the Founder of the California Center for Implant Dentistry and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and American Dental Implant Association. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Liu joined a group practice in Northern California, where within six months he was tasked with running his own clinic, which he has successfully the past four years.

Dr. Liu is a Shanghai native, born here but emigrating to the United States at a very young age. His father, a Fudan University Professor of Biochemistry, took a position at the University of California-Davis. Following in his father’s footsteps, Dr. Liu has also taught at his alma mater in the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Sciences, holding the positions of Adjunct Faculty, Instructor, and Clinical Faculty at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry since 2013.

Despite growing up in the United States, Dr. Liu has always felt an innate desire to return home to Shanghai, and brings with him his extensive training and desire for continuing education. Dr. Liu’s special interests in dentistry lie in endodontics, implant dentistry, and removable prosthodontics. What differentiates Dr. Liu is his passion for dentistry and his compassionate manner in delivering it. He truly cares about each of his patients, and finds ways to connect with them and make them feel at ease, treating each patient as if it was one of his own family members.

When not in the clinic, Dr. Liu enjoys staying active, enjoying the outdoors and traveling, and doing volunteer dental work. Dr. Liu has volunteered at multiple free clinics in California (Give Kids a Smile, CDA Cares, Dentistry from the Heart), and even has participated in a Dental Mission trip to the Philippines. Lastly, he cherishes the moments he spends with his wife and son.

Dr. Liu speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Shanghainese at a working professional proficiency.
